We welcome our September guest speaker: Myrese Nochomowitz, MPH, RD, LDN as we explore the topic of eating. Many neurodivergent individuals present with Avoidant Restrictive Intake Disorder (ARFID) and/or extreme picky eating. This presents a potential for nutrient deficiencies and growth deficits. BUT, it doesn’t have to! Parents, understandably, are often very worried about their child’s picky eating habits. In this presentation, we’ll unpack eating issues common to neurodivergent individuals, discuss the root causes and provide helpful tools to ensure individuals are meeting their nutritional needs.
Topics Covered:
- Nourishing and supporting children with ARFID and/or extreme picky eating
- 5 common senses-smell, sight, sound, taste, touch
- Our “hidden” senses: interoception, vestibular, proprioceptive
- The 3 types of ARFID
- Common nutrition myths, misconceptions
- Approaches that help
