About Discovery Museum
The Discovery Museum is a hands-on museum for families that blends science, nature, and play, located in Acton, MA. The museum, with its Discovery Woods accessible outdoor nature playscape and 550 sq ft (51 m2) treehouse, provides STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning on a beautiful 4.5-acre campus. The museum includes significant galleries and experiences with water; air; tinkering, design, and engineering; early brain development; math; light and color; and sound. It also includes visitor favorites such as a Train Room, a Ship Room, and a giant amethyst and radar magnet. All exhibits are hands-on, low-tech, open-ended, and interactive, with the purpose of play, exploration, and experimentation by all.
Autism Welcoming Information
The Discovery Museum is Autism WelcomingSM certified and is proud to support individuals with autism. The museum staff is committed to never turning away an individual or group for any reason. They are eager to partner with community organizations to seek out underserved audiences and find ways to help them access the Museum and our programs. Their events include the Especially for Me program series, which offers free evenings at the Museum for families with children on the autism spectrum in conjunction with the Autism Alliance and sensory-friendly evenings for visitors 18+ events. The museum offers dedicated, free admission hours for families with children and adults on the autism spectrum, who are deaf or hard of hearing, or blind or low vision, through the Especially for Me programs.
